Established in your primary series Astanga practice?
Intermediate Series, also called ‘Nadi Shodhana’ meaning ‘the cleansing of the nervous system’, opens to the energetic dimension of Astanga Yoga. With deeper backbends, twisting, hip opening and balancing postures, Intermediate Series builds upon the foundation of Primary Series and it is designed to strengthen the entire body, spine and nervous system – ultimately allowing the energy to flow continuously and uninterruptedly.
In this weekend workshop, the full 2nd series of Astanga Yoga will be presented and made accessible by breaking it down into parts and progressively present the new postures of the Intermediate Series, such as Pashanana, Kapotasana, Pinchamayurasana and Mukta Hasta Shirshasana addressing foundations of technique, alignment and injury prevention.
Clayton Horton is authorized to teach Intermediate Series directly from the KPJAYI of Mysore. He will make these new postures accessible and fun to play with, while enabling you to inform and inspire your practice and understanding of yoga as a whole.
Suitable for those who have a regular and consistent Primary Series practice along with proficient back bending.
Program Outline:
Saturday 12 September
9:30-13:00 : Establishing Intention and Foundation
Focusing on back bending and twists, this workshop is a stepping stone to the intricate poses of the Intermediate (2nd) Series of Astanga Yoga. Principles of back bending and the first half of Intermediate Series will be demonstrated, broken down and explored. The workshop series will begin with observing the Patanjali Yoga Sutra: Sthira Sukkham Asanam.
14:30-17:30: Doing the Work
This session will focus on Arm Balancing, Ekapada Sirshasana and the middle section of the Intermediate Series. Detailed technique, alignment and injury prevention will be covered with adequate time for exploration and inquiry. Discussion will evolve around the Patanjali Yoga Sutra: Tapas, Svadyaya, Ishvarapranidhana.
Sunday 13 September
9:30-13:00 : Refinement and Injury Prevention
This session will focus on the technique of breath and movement during postures and transitions of the last part of the Intermediate Series, Pincha Mayurasana and the finishing headstands. Injury prevention and efficiency will be addressed. Attention will be given to the Patanjali Yoga Sutra: Heyam Dukkham Anugatam.
14:30-17:30 : Nadi Shodhana – Action and Integration
In this Afternoon Session, we will practice the full Intermediate Series with mindfulness and a consistent tempo. Information and technique will be integrated with intelligence and a sense of humor.

To join this workshop we ask you to have at least 2 years of regular Astanga Yoga practice, to have completed Primary Series and to be working already with dropbacks and/or Intermediate Series poses.
